Ruby is a dancer from the Midwest on scholarship, living her first day in New York City. Johnnie is a British musician, playing for money in the subway tunnels. Ruby’s world is classical and disciplined; Johnnie’s is improvisational and street smart. When a hip-hop battle gone wrong throws these two artists together, they immediately clash but can’t deny it when sparks begin to fly. Their lives quickly get entangled in the pitfalls that come with competing in New York City. With the help of a dynamic dance crew called The SwitchSteps, Ruby and Johnnie must find a way to save Ruby’s scholarship and keep Johnnie from being deported.

In an action-packed extravaganza combining cutting edge hip-hop with contemporary and classical dance, the two must navigate their opposing worlds and prepare for a competition where winning or losing will change their lives forever.

  1. Well I don't care I enjoy this movie..It's very good.. If Hollywood gotton they're libra claws into it it be so messed up with sex and drugs and some they're libral left winged garbage it be worth nothing.. So glad that the Indepence movies are still around come up with some really great movies… a whole lot better than these Hollywood crap they always put out..and Micheal Damian were the pretty good actor back in the 80's and 90's as well great Rock n Roll singer too..

  2. Great movie!! It was so exciting watching all those taleneted people. . Awesome love story also. They should make more wholesome movies like this one.Thank you to whom ever uploaded this movie. thank you also to Youtube for playing it!! I have watched it twice.!

  3. Oh my god I'm sobbing the violin acting is horrendous it's so bad
The only time it's 'remotely okay' from what I've kind of seen is where they only see the upclose hand and nothing else
I can only get through 8 minutes damn the violin playing is shit so far, the acting is not the best

  4. I expected the YouTube freebies to be terrible crap that an average high school AV club can easily outdo. This is better than most of the multimedia fast-food that Hollywood's been been serving our minds lately. It's got a message society seems to be losing as we allow technology to replace the personal touch from more aspects of daily life: Talents and gifts don't reach anyone unless you're with the right supportive team — even the YouTube soloists forget nowadays that YouTube's managers and other viewers are part of the team they need. If you're always exhibiting your talent in the middle o'nowhere you're relying on the outside chance of a passerby with all the right connections at just the right moment and you might as well play the state lottery because your chances are better there.

This movie's writers are correct in suggesting that true solo artists tend to keep playing in anger (whatever makes people solo tends to cause anger as well) and aren't likely to develop the necessary discipline to go anywhere with their talent. The same is true of the rigid traditionalists who can't loosen up enough to dance in present-day — just look at the changes that have happened to "church" in the last 20 years compared to the way things were for centuries before that. Something happens to us when we "let go of the Latin" and come into today.

This movie is a good reminder for the internet age that some things don't change no matter how much we change the world around us; technology or not, human souls still need each other as much as they did in ancient times. Each one of these characters would've been screwed in one way or another if they had to go it alone.

Random observation: Does anyone else see this couple is Jack and Rose from Titanic? Ocean currents carried Jack through a whirlpool of youth and he woke up, grabbed a floating violin in the wreckage, got washed into the NYC subway tunnels by a record-breaking storm surge and spent the last 100 years learning how to play the violin that helped save his life. These two even repeat the "Irish Party In Third Class" scene!

Random observation #2: Lindsey Stirling wasn't in this. WHY?!?!?

  5. This is for kids. Blond girl is an albino and the dude in the black is a traumatized day walker.

I retract my original statement to say that this is another great movie fromUTUBE! It starts slow and gets you hooked that you just can't walk away. Thanks utube.
I just checked and it is made by Michael Damien as the singer and soap opera star, producer and his wife. that was involved making this movie. Simply brilliant!!!

  6. Honestly I'm disappointed by all the critical comments. If you have something negative to say KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!!! I for one, really enjoyed this movie. There are actually a lot worse ones out there.
